Warnings:

1) Electrical Work Warning

High‑Risk Work – Electrical

Electrical work can cause severe injury, death, fire, and property damage if done incorrectly. In many areas, electrical work beyond very simple tasks must be performed by a licensed electrician and may require permits and inspections.

HouseDoc’s electrical guidance is general and informational only and may not reflect your specific wiring, panel, or local code requirements. Before touching any electrical component, always turn off power at the correct breaker, verify power is off with an appropriate tester, and follow all manufacturer instructions.

If the issue involves your electrical panel, main service, new wiring, unknown circuits, repeated breaker trips, burnt or melted parts, or anything you don’t fully understand, do not proceed. Contact a licensed electrician. HouseDoc, its creators, and affiliates are not liable for any electrical injury, fire, or damage.

2) Plumbing / Water Damage Warning

High‑Risk Work – Plumbing & Water Damage

Plumbing work can cause flooding, mold, structural damage, and contamination if done incorrectly. Some plumbing work must be performed by a licensed plumber and may require permits.

HouseDoc’s plumbing guidance is general and informational only and may not match your specific piping, fixtures, or local plumbing code. Before loosening any fittings, ensure you know where and how to shut off water to the fixture and to the whole house, and be prepared to manage leaks or sudden water flow.

If the issue involves main supply lines, sewer lines, recurring sewage backup, hidden leaks inside walls or ceilings, or anything you cannot quickly control, stop and call a licensed plumber. HouseDoc, its creators, and affiliates are not responsible for any water damage, mold, or related losses.

3) Structural / Permits / Code Warning

High‑Risk Work – Structural & Code‑Sensitive Projects

Altering structural components or doing work that normally requires permits can cause serious safety issues and legal problems if done incorrectly. This can include removing or modifying walls, joists, beams, load‑bearing elements, stairways, decks, and certain exterior or foundation work.

HouseDoc’s guidance is not a substitute for engineering, architectural, or permit requirements and may not reflect your home’s actual structure or local building codes.

If a project could affect the strength or stability of your home, involves cutting or removing framing, or you are unsure whether a permit or inspection is required, do not proceed based on this app. Contact a licensed contractor, structural professional, or your local building department. HouseDoc, its creators, and affiliates are not liable for structural failures, collapses, fines, or code violations.

4) HVAC / Gas Appliance Warning

High‑Risk Work – HVAC & Gas Appliances

Heating and cooling systems, especially gas‑fired furnaces, boilers, and water heaters, can cause fire, explosion, carbon monoxide poisoning, and serious property damage if serviced incorrectly. In many areas, installation, modification, and major repairs to HVAC systems must be performed by a licensed HVAC contractor and may require permits and inspections.

HouseDoc’s HVAC guidance is general and informational only and may not match your specific equipment, venting, gas supply, or local code requirements. Never work on gas lines, combustion chambers, flue/vent pipes, or safety controls unless you are properly trained and licensed.

If you smell gas, suspect a carbon monoxide issue, see signs of overheating or burning, or the problem involves fuel supply, burners, heat exchangers, flues, or refrigerant lines, do not proceed. Shut the system off if it is safe to do so, leave the area, and contact your gas company or a licensed HVAC contractor immediately. HouseDoc, its creators, and affiliates are not liable for any injury, fire, explosion, or damage related to HVAC or gas appliance work.
